SPRED Catechists Needed: SPRED (Special Religious Development) provides religious development and education through spiritual movement, music, and Liturgical words for people with special needs. SPRED catechists do not need any educational or special needs experience. Many of our catechists have never worked with children with special needs. They have quickly discovered the joy and love that our friends give us during each session we share together. We meet once a week October through April. We need catechists for both our 6-10 age group (Wednesday nights) and our 11-16 age group (Monday nights). If you are able to volunteer your time or wish to learn more, please contact Kelly Corrigan at (847) 726-4742 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Life Teen Youth Ministry: Our Youth Ministry Program is currently in need of volunteers to serve in a variety of capacities, including serving as Confirmation leaders and/or helping with Life Teen Mass, Life Nights, retreats, Wednesday Night Adoration, and our Prayer Team. For a full list of these opportunities, please click here.
Help Wanted on Sunday Mornings: We are currently in need of adult volunteers who are willing to give up 20-25 minutes for our children once a month during the 11 a.m. Mass. If you’re a regular at the 11 a.m. Mass, you know that during the school year children in preschool through 1st grade are dismissed every week for Children’s Liturgy of the Word. The children hear the Gospel, talk about it on their level, and then return to their parents after the Prayer of the Faithful. Volunteers lead one session each month and receive copies of the readings, session outlines, and activity sheets in advance. If you enjoy working with kids, please consider helping with this wonderful ministry. If you are willing to help or want more information, please call Kathy at 847-726-4850 or
Life Night Volunteers Needed: The St. Francis de Sales Youth Ministry program is also in need of volunteers to assist with Life Teen NIghts (Sundays). Volunteers would assist the Life Night Team and help lead discussions, activities, and faith formation for freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors in high school. You can help lead discussions weekly, monthly, or quarterly as your schedule allows. Life Nights are held every Sunday night with the exception of holiday or Holy Day weekends, Mother's Day, and Father's Day.
Five Minutes a Day to Feed the Hungry: Emmaus House of Hospitality, a ministry at St. Francis de Sales, has a volunteer job opening for Food Rescue Coordinator. This assignment assists an existing network of volunteers who pick up donated food at local food vendors. The job essentially is checking e-mail and phone for messages from volunteers and ensuring that all pick-up commitments are made. Please call Bob Gorman at (847) 322-5176 for information.
Bereavement Ministry Seeks Volunteers: If you are looking for an opportunity to serve the St. Francis de Sales community, there is a gratifying position waiting for you. The Bereavement Ministry is in need of two volunteers to prepare the Worship Aides that are provided to mourners attending Funeral Liturgies at our parish. The booklets are extremely important as guides to those attending funerals from outside our community who may not be families within the Catholic Faith.
Requirements are experience using computers and a willingness to learn a simple procedure to prepare the booklets. Training is provided. This is an on-call, rotation position. St. Francis de Sales Parish averages 65 funerals annually. Please consider joining this important ministry. Please contact Karin Jurczak at the MInistry Center at (847) 438-6622.
Ushers Needed: We are looking for additional men and women to serves as ushers at our weekend Masses. We hope to increase our current ushers by an additional 20, to ensure that ALL of our ushers have options for scheduling and back-up in case anyone is on vacation, ill, etc. The usher's role is important. Responsibilities include greeting parishioners and guests, safeguarding the people in the Church, answering questions, direction people to pews, chairs, and restrooms, hospitality, as well as stewardship. If you are of high school age or older and wish to learn more about becoming a member of this important ministry, please contact Father Ryan at (847) 726-4723.
